| The Joweh Dance Experience Presents “A Call to Dance” Dance and music Fusion with influences from the Rom Trail: India, Egypt, Middle and Near East, and North Africa The faint smell of spices and a mysterious chant from somewhere behind you… the aisles fill with dancers clad in skirts and embroidered mirrors. The stage fills with music, color; ankle bells joining the rhythm, the journey begins… From India’s Gypsy roots to the cymbals, swinging tassels and beads of Egypt, the wild trances and chants of the Tuareg Blue People of North Africa…the wooden spoons and swirling skirts of the Turkish Gypsies, the ruffles and calls of the Spanish Flamenco. Finally, the tribes emerge. ************ The Joweh Dance Experience celebrates the fascinating links between cultures and countries via the living arts of music and dance. Our current production, “A call to Dance” is based on the travels of the people known as the Rom, or Gypsies (Gitano). Their migrations were key in the development of music and dance, as we know it. TerriAnne Gutierrez, director and fonder of the The Joweh Dance Experience, is dedicated to the study of various styles and cultures along this important route and offers her interpretations of many traditional dances along with modern twists and turns along the way. The many colorful costumes and rich, compelling music all reflect years of study. “A call to Dance” passes through many distinct areas, including: India Egypt and Lebanon Saudi Arabia Turkey North Africa and Morocco Spain **************** THE SHOW Can be booked in several ways: FULL EVENING SHOW A two-hour version of the entire show.
